I’m afraid of confrontations because I never believed in verbal fights. Hey, am I for real? Truth is, I’m afraid I’d lose the argument, give up my pride and eventually, hurt my precious ego. I always wanted to end up right, a person who rarely commits mistakes. So, I try to protect myself lest I become defensive and lose my composure.

I never realized how shallow my understanding was until I received a “brotherly correction” from a close friend in college.

  • If everyone in the U.S. recycled one-tenth of their used newspapers, it would save twenty-five million trees a year.
  • Every ton of recycled office paper saves 380 gallons of oil.
  • Recycling glass instead of manufacturing new glass from sand reduces related air pollution by 20 percent and water pollution by 50 percent.
  • If only 10 percent of the population purchased products with less plastic packaging 10 percent of the time, it would eliminate 144 million pounds of plastic from landfills and reduce industrial pollution caused by the manufacture of plastic packaging.

Some if not a lot of people pray as a means of seeking comfort in difficult times. Others view prayer as a type of communion with a source of love or with the mystery that surrounds their lives. Because prayer, by its very definition connects us with a higher power, or universal source, or deep natural wisdom, it can encourage a more expansive view of life.
